VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Peter J. Tilley provides an overview of the Red 8Line and explains the differentiators to its predecessor the Red 4Pre. Finally, Peter explores how to simplify your workflow with tools such as cue mix, the available I/O matrix and DAW input routing via RedNet Control.
Join Dave Rieley and Matt Pliskin as they sit down with Steve Genewick (GRAMMY-Nominated Senior Mixing Engineer at Capitol Records), Ceri Thomas (Content & Studio Enablement at Dolby Labs), and Rob Burrell (Multi-GRAMMY Winning Producer and Engineer) to discuss mixing Atmos in a variety of interesting situations and settings.
Multi-GRAMMY-Winning producer and engineer Rob Burrell records acoustic trio Lance and Lea at Castle Recordings, utilising a Focusrite ISA 428 MkII and Focusrite Red 16Line connected via Dante.
ISA HERITAGE: THE STORY OF THE FOCUSRITE CONSOLE
Focusrite grew out of a 1985 request from Sir George Martin to legendary recording console designer Rupert Neve to build a no-compromise mic pre and EQ for the console at Air Studios Montserrat. The resulting modules, prefixed with the letters ISA (Input Signal Amplifier), featured a transformer-coupled mic preamplifier, sophisticated EQ and a truly musical compressor design. Found first in the Forte console and subsequently the Studio console, ISA modules were the epitome of audio clarity, and were later sold as outboard units, where they rapidly became renowned for their no-compromise sound.
AN INTRODUCTION TO DANTE
Audinate's Dante technology has become the de-facto standard for Audio-over-IP (AoIP) and, along with Focusrite Pro, numerous other pro audio manufacturers offer Dante-equipped hardware for a wide range of applications. Using fundamentally the same Ethernet technology employed in consumer and commercial data networks, Dante enables multi-channel uncompressed digital audio distribution with minimal latency at sampling rates of up to 192kHz. Dante AoIP can even share an existing network infrastructure with conventional network traffic.
FEATURED PRODUCTS
Red 8Line is our latest addition to the hugely powerful Red range of Pro Tools™ HD, Thunderbolt™ 3 and Dante® audio interfaces for Mac and PC. With mini-DigiLink, Thunderbolt 3 and Dante connections, it's possible to instantly switch between Pro Tools, other DAW applications, and a vast world of Audio-over-IP.
RedNet R1 is a desktop remote controller that supercharges any Red range interface, by enabling audio professionals to interact with their audio like never before. It can control a range of different monitor output setups, ranging from mono through to 7.1.4 surround, including Dolby Atmos® and other immersive audio workflows. Alternatively, completely custom setups of up to 12 outputs can be configured for bespoke speaker configurations.
RedNet A16R MkII is a 16-channel analogue interface for Dante networks, perfect for critical-path applications in recording, post production, live sound and broadcast.
RedNet D16R MkII is a 16-channel bi-directional AES3 interface for Dante® networks featuring individual input and output channel level controls, allowing for precise calibration.
Since the creation of the ISA 110 for Sir George Martin's console at Air Monserrat in 1985, the Focusrite name has been synonymous with no-compromise mic preamps. The legacy of the ISA 110 lives on in the ISA 828 MkII: an eight-channel ISA mic preamp with the iconic Lundahl LL1538 transformer on every channel.
ISA ADN2 and ISA ADN8 are optional A-D cards that provides high-quality analogue-to-digital conversion for our ISA One, ISA 428 MkII and ISA 828 MkII mic preamps. Featuring Dante, AES3 and ADAT connectivity, the cards operates at sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz.
